Project Slann has commenced
So I decided to give Slann a go, since Purplegoo told me that they're something genuinely different.

So I made a team and a pact with nuffle to sign them up every time I signed up for the box, and then let nuffle decide how much playtime they would get.
Whom could have guess that nuffle is a big frog fan, I think I signed up around 8 times to get 5 matches with frogs, go figure.

And now after just 5 matches I can already say that goo has the right of it, danm its something else, they break how conventional blood bowl is played. I love how that no matter how many players you have left you can always find someway to get a play of.
Its a shame the blitzers are so over prized, that I cant get myself to add one to the team, maybe ill make a Ranked Slann team and have some blitzers on it.

So I am having a lot of fun, it might just be because luck has favored me so far with the team but I really enjoy playing them. And I cant wait to see how the team will develop. I just need to stop my catchers from dropping dead left and right.

I even sat down today and made a Slann roster for the upcoming Euro Bowl, a roster that I think could work... to bad my team will never allow me to play em ;)

Cheers for this time, ill blog about Slann again when I have played them some more, maybe 20 matches will teach me to hate em, but for now they are my new love.

I must say that I love Slann as well - but I play them differently. I like to start with Krox/2 blitzers and don't buy any catchers until the blitzers start to skill. I think it is very challenging to buy blitzers at higher TV, and if you don't have blitzers then you can't really make it to high TV anyway (in the box that is). So far my relatively few games per 2 month period has allowed my first Slann team to do very well in the sprints - because there aren't high TV slann teams (and those that are there have nice skilled blitzers!).

With regard to blitzers in general: many, many people declare them overpriced - but if you do the math they are actually a value if you put 4 skills on them and then compare them to the TV of other race's blitzers with the same skills. I think any coach can drool over a blodge/SS/Guard/DT/JU/Leap blitzer. And they get that without doubles for 190K! If you want a Dark Elf blitzer with Blodge/SS/Guard/DT it costs 190K, and while you can dodge better, you don't have Jump up or Leap and you need doubles to do it. Play around with the math and you might start to drool over what you can do with GAS skill access...

But in any case, have fun! I agree 100% with how much fun games can be even when you are losing - you can always try something to stay in it, and they really are challenging to develop since you need so many different skills right from the start.

Like happygrue said, don't underestimate the blitzers. I used to always aim to have 4 blitzers and to make them the stars of the team.

Worked pretty well until the frustration over bad dice piled up too high to tolerate, so I retired Hope[R] ;).

Welcome to the masochist club of Slann coaches!
Protip: Slann blitzers are silly at 0-5spps, overpriced at 6-15, OK at 16, and one of the best players in BB 31 and up.

Must..... Resist...... Nonsense....... So hard......... ;)

I really love the slann blitzer I do...but the truth is the team just cant afford them, since they dont add anything they need to win games.
Slann does not have to bash to win, so if I build up some slann bashers ill just get more bash back... its not worth it.

If I ran Slann in a leauge I might consider getting some, just for laughs and giggels :)

Purplegoo loves Slann blitzers! You should hear him extolling their virtues!

It's not so much the bash that makes blitzers awesome, but the blodge, ss, dt manmarking and the not relying on a double for guard for hopping in an assist for 2d on the ballcarrier.

If I didn't know better, I'd think that calling something "nonsense" without any evidence was called trolling. :P

For me, the game comes down to fun. Winning challenging games is fun. And - for me - developing a Slann blitzer into an awesome player is about as much fun you can have. :D

But the bigger question here is what is the goal of the team. Are you trying to win a major? Are you trying to do well in a sprint (first in race perhaps?) Or are you trying to win games at lower TV. If the answer is the latter, then by all means avoid the blitzers and go with krox/3 catchers. If you are trying to do well in the box at higher TV or go for a major I just don't see it happening without developed blitzers.

sprint (first in race perhaps) <-- is this something you sign up for? like majors or?

My goal is just to play them and win... how ever that is done best.
So where do you guys think the Slann team is at its best? I am thinkng 130ish before to much guard becomes an issue.

I dont see a high tv Slann team as doing good over long time... I might be wrong :)

Sprints are automatically recorded and measure games when one or both teams is 1700K or over. Details here:

http://www.cmanu.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bb/stats/sprint.html?sprintId=36

What you are doing is the best path IMHO if what you want is highest win percentage. Personally, my goal with any race is to develop them and see if I can make them into something that could win a minor or major (no Slann team yet has won a major...) of some kind. Here is the best Slann team I have (quite beaten up at the moment):

http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=642147

They were also either the first or one of the first (I forget) teams I made when I came to Fumbbl, so I'm interested in starting a new team with all that I have learned since then but I don't have time to play that many games so all my projects are rather lengthy affairs. :D
