OWOBB #27 Ranking Blood Bowl competitive play. How and why?
Numberwang, Chicken Rendang, dodemath, TV+, TV++, Elo, Glicko, CR, TV, NAF rating, win% and ladders.
Blood Bowl, the beer and skittles game that Nerds take seriously, demands a ranking system, doesn't it?
But which one, what is fair? what are we even trying to rate? With FUMBBL adopting new rankings, and BB3 showing seemingly random numbers at people, now seems a great time to talk about the entire concept, and what we want from it all.

I will ask those questions. To which i have no good answers, so I've invited some people that might.
PurpleChest: Seriously out of my depth. But can count accurately beyond 5.
Elyod: A smarter gamer, recent FUMBBL major winner and seems to know proper maths. Likes rankings.
Christer: IS FUMBBL. Has rated coaches for a long time. Also knows maths.
Geryon: BB2 lead admin, bb3 admin. Numberwanger. Very solid maths.
So two incredible admins to talk to and three incredibly big brains, feel free to drop questions below and ill grab them up and ask them as if i thought of them, doesn't have to be about Rankings, but i am going there for sure.
As always the show will be live on my twitch then about 24 hours later go out as podcast in all the usual places, and on YouTube.

Another BB3 admin? You posed the question last time of why not look for positives, and I think a discussion around complacency should be considered.
I don't think the concerns are Geryon's or Yaquestay's fault, and secondly I don't think he has agency to address them.
I'm sure people will disagree with me, and that's their right, but just sayin'...

If the goal is to judge coach skill, do you think it would make sense to add a correction factor to the formula to account for the race matchup? Otherwise coaches who want to top the ratings list are incentivized to only play the best races.

Glicko 2 seems doing better than old ranking system, I really appreciated Christer's effort to implement it and do all the recalculations. I'd just add more frequent ranking decay, if I could (just humble and polite suggestion, not demanding with arrogant tone). Some coaches don't play as often as me (I have RD' 37) yet they are ranked higher than me (not to mention coaches never playing in the Box and higher ranked than me in Overall rankings).
Their rankings have less statistical reliability than mine due to less regular playing, hence the need for more frequent ranking decay.
That said, even if rankings are not as accurate as they could be, amen. I'm already grateful to be able to play online BB.

Powerful lineup of grey cells, I'll make sure I catch the podcast.
The rankings seem roughly right within their scope. It is amusing (okay I over stated that, perhaps 'slightly amusing on a slow day') to see coaches who have not played much in the new system rated erroneously.
Are we seriously supposed to believe PC plays at Emerging Star level?
