SillySod on Fouling
Like a wasp late to the picnic, SillySod moves in...bzzzzzzzz.....

I like fouling. I like it along with all of the other bits of bloodbowl which include needless violence including such joys as surfing and especially rocks.

Some miscellaneous points on fouling will follow, each completely unrelated to the next.

Chat with your opponent, urge him to kill your players (or at least congratulate him after each RIP). Its like congratulating a good TD, if you do it then your opponent is more likely to congratulate you on your kills. Even if giving a little dosent appeal then you can at least try it out hoping to get stuff (compliments) back.

A happy foul is a good foul.

I think that lack of strong comunication is THE major weakness of FUMBBL.If both players are talking then both are more involved, also more likely to start to understand who their opponent is.

DP is not the only skill. A dedicated fouling machine will have an array of supplementary skills such as kick (very handy for forcing elves to come close to those zombie boots). Kick is also a wonderful skill to have when fouling, the karma is undeniable.

Practice your fouls. A practiced foul is a good foul.

Momentum. Make sure your fouls impact the game. I find that a runup helps for this.

GTR and DP is arguably very broken (not going into that here). However, there is a strong misconception that this particularly favours a DP laden team.

Consider two orc teams. One has 5 DPs, the other has two (and 3 orcs with block). The advantage of the having 5 over two is that you have spares when they get sent off (2 DPs ought to be able to cover the pitch). Now imagine that both teams GTR. Which one has the advantage? Its pretty blatently the team that gets the free gift of more fouls that gains (the 2 DP, 3 block team).

Finally: a much unstated "tactical" point:

Fouling is a wonderful tool of terror. A capable fouler will create a strong disincentive for the other player to do certain things with their players. On turn 16 many people arent looking to protect their best player and wouldnt think twice about commiting them to that last ditch effort. Against a dedicated turn 16 fouler however, they are forced to weigh up the chances of scoring (or whatever) with the chances of being stomped into the turf. You chose to take the risk, I'll foul same as any other turn, otherwise theres no disincentive for you.

Use fouling like an Ogre player uses their scrimmage line (which, lets face it, always looks mashier than it is). Scare them.

May all your fouls be happy!
