Why not Ogres?
As a player, I really like some of the wackier teams, partly because they are so funny but mostly because they come with some really cool players and some potential for real creativity.

While playing FUMBBL I've noticed that by far the hardest of the crazy teams to play well is ogres, certainly within the [R]anked environment.

Lets take a look at a brief summary of why:
- Ogres are unreliable, often its wisest to resist the temptation to mash the guys in front of you because if you do your whole plan falls to pieces
- Ogres start with few re-rolls and have too many things which need re-rolls.
- Blocking causes lots of turnovers until you get block as your first skill, as such block is almost a necesity leaving tackle to be very rare. Either blocking normally is a nightmare or blodgers are a nightmare (or you roll alot of doubles)
- Ogres do plenty of damage but fouling really isnt kind to them, not only does it require important doubles skills to compete but generally an ogre being fouled out is bad news.
- Ogres get dodged plenty and find few games where they arent playing either equal matchups or against a stronger team. This can potentially make playing an ogre team in [R] really frustrating.

However, it isnt all bad since:
- Lots of MB, guard, and St5 makes mush.
- TTM + right stuff gives ogres real potential for an interesting passing play (albeit player passing).
- potentially guard on each ogre supported by a goblin with DT is very powerful, lock them in so you can keep beating every turn.

Ok, so there are the pros and cons, some are larger than others, admittedly ogre teams arent my favourite (vampires) but they certainly do have plenty of charm as well as awsome potential once you skill up and fill out the roster.

Therefore, my message is twofold. Firstly, why not try an ogre team? FUMBBL could use some more of the lumbering big fellahs and I think you could really enjoy them.

Secondly, why not play against an ogre team today? They can be a hoot, failing all those bone heads is pretty funny to watch (always the worst moment) and it can be interesting to see how your opponent deals with the challenge. Furthermore, Ogre teams really arent good, they have some real merits but generally their flaws are huge. The ogres themselves look much scarier than they actually are and once you can get over that it suddenly seems easy.

Avoiding Ogres is one of the daftest things people do, as an opponent they chuck away a fun game and an easy win, as a player they lose fun games and a challenge like no other.

I agree ogres are fun to play, but I disagree that dodging them is 'one of the daftest things people do'. I have received some pretty severe beatings when playing against ogres with humans, norse, high elves, and chaos. Granted, these games the ogres didn't fail many bonehead rolls and my opponent was rolling quite well (and/or I was rolling rather poorly). But the point is, I've played against Ogres enough times to know they aren't a 'gimme' game.
