In my blood
I haven't played since 2008. That's FOUR years in between games. I don't know why I keep coming back to this game...maybe it is just because it is so much fun, or maybe because it allows me to reminisce about the good old times. Twenty years have gone by since I opened that glorious box, full of blue and red plastic miniatures and the amazing physics-defying high-density foam board. I must have retaped that cardboard box so many times, that it started to look like I laquered it. At the height of my obsession I had a metric ton of half-painted teams from all sorts of races - my favourite being the snotlings! I have lost track of most of it. The result of ultimately growing older and needing the storage for other things like camping equipment and bicycles for my kids. Nonetheless, a well enjoyed hobby.

I remember a league that I was a part of - The Reij Indromida Football League it was called, or RIFL for short. Over the course of several years (I think it is even still running), we met in a friends basement every week to play. We had a weekly newspaper with standings, articles, team reviews and the like. I remember clearly watching "bad dice" get thrown mercilessly against the walls and how we would all gather around for the championship game. Daryl's infamous Red Army and Dean's Black Hand - local legends that struck fear into all of us. Of course, this was back in the days when Mighty Blow had a number next to it - and you didn't dare tangle with anything higher than Mighty Blow 2!

In retrospect, I miss the comradarie and the face to face personalities. The game was so much more than dice. It was fellowship and an excuse to put your mid-term paper aside for one more day. Fumbbl can't ever hope to replace that time and place, but it will be a lot of fun to try.

As someone who, in my youth, gathered to play magic the gathering with the other boys on magic nights at books-a-million stores... but has only truly gotten to play any sorts of real bloodbowl here I can honestly say that... it is better here.

There is no... you know, being the odd kids in the corner playing cards. I enjoyed hanging out with my friends and I missed going when I missed a week back then, but its no comparison to this. Plus, there are people from around the world here to meet and play with... all times of the day, all days of the year.

Welcome to fumbbl, sure you'll like it!

Welcome!

@Johnalex: just because people can't see us do it doesn't mean we're not 'odd kids in a corner playing with (virtual) miniatures'.

Wow some guy's been running the same league in his basement and producing a newspaper on it for over 20 years!!! That's some dedication, particularly with the dice throwers ruining the decor.

There was something about GW games from that period. Ok they don't play as well as the modern game, but the feel of them can't be compared.

@harvestmouse You aren't kidding! The walls of his basement took a beating! Needless to say, they eventually started to use the facilities of a local comic book shop. I can't imagine hosting us in my own home now. I paint the walls and now I yell at anyone for even leaning on them!

I miss the banter of my old league as well but I now live 4000 miles from the old group and Fumbbl has been a great way to continue playing one of my two favorite games of all time. Nuffle bless Christer and crew!!

Oh and when are you going to get around to taking care of that game against lloydzz22's team? I've been waiting 135+ weeks to play him next!!!

While I do admit that it's not as easy to banter and BS during a game, it's still fun as hell here surrounded by nerds playing with little (virtual) toys!

Brings back great memories of playing and writing articles for Ye Olde Games Club this. Morg, Griff and Zug for the win!
