Passing Math
Lets say that you have rolled an 11 on your all important skill roll for one of your linemen that you are looking to make into a passer. Of course you would be thrilled with the ability, right? Maybe you shouldn't be!

For arguments sake, lets take a look at an AG3 human lineman. His AG goes up by one. In effect, his chances of making a successful pass increase by 1/6 or 16.7%. You go from needing a 4 on a regular (+0 mod) pass (happens 50% of the time) to a 3, which you can get on 6, 5, 4, and 3 - it happens 66.7% of the time. That is not a bad thing at all, but it is not as good as a reroll!

If you selected the pass skill, you essentially get much better results out of your passing. You essentially need to get a 4 or more on EITHER die of two rolls. Out of 36 possible outcomes, only (1,1); (1, 2); (1, 3); (2,1); (2, 2); (2,3); (3,1); (3,2) and (3,3) are failures. That translates to 27/36 success rate or 75% completion rate. That's a jump of 25% - not only a bigger increase than above, but a much better chance at completion than any AG4 unskilled chukka!

Of course the argument is "but my AG4 unskilled chukka can dodge WAY better than your new tosser..."

This is true, of course. The AG is more diversified and is able to catch the ball, grab a hand-off or or just pick up the ball off the bloody pitch more consistently. This little example is certainly illuminating when it comes to realizing the power of a reroll. The undervalued LEADER skill and the less consistent PRO, are both ways of making a bigger difference in your finesse game than an extra point of agility.

This is, of course, a simplistic illustration. Everyone has team rerolls and the AG4 critter can certainly call on one! With a team reroll in your pocket, the AG4 unskilled chukka has a 88.9% completion rate!!! Now you know why we are willing to pay through the nose to get them-there re-roll thingers!

The point of all this? Stock up on the re-rolls! They (in any form) are worth their weight in gold. So cheers to the PASS/CATCH/LEADER skills - may they save our bacon, time and again!

Keep your head up and your cleats on the pitch!

P.S. For the record, I like my throwers to have AG4 *AND* PASS. Just in case!
