Team Names
A relative newcomer to FUMBBL, I was surprised at the huge variety of team names that people have used for their latest and favorite Blood Bowlers. I have to say, there were some really fantastic and original names out there, some of my favorites being things like the Tombstone Stalkers or the Drakwald Death Squad to name a few. I also saw one team that ended in B.B.C. (Which I can only assume means Blood Bowl Club) - which I think was really neat. It certainly speaks the the cultural variance in our little community here.

I have to admit, I like names that include a psuedo-location. One of my teams, whose name I stole from "Dean" from our local league many years ago was the Hamlin Tiger-Rats. Any good Canadian boy will recognize where it comes from and realize how cool it is.... his Skaven were even painted yellow and black! So I stole it without asking (oops!) as I haven't seen him in near a decade. It had the location (bonus points from it being from a rhyme!) that went along with rats appropriately and then mixing it with a relatively untalented CFL franchise name to lend it some recognition power (at least among fellow Canucks). In the end, I love a great name! Wherever you are "Dean", I hope life has treated you well!

Then there are the ones that make me cringe. Its the ones that you can tell haven't taken much time or put much thought into the name. Stuff like "Dwarves Like to Mine" or "Songs by Moby" are like someone running their nails down a chaulk board! I made those up (and if you actually have one of these names, I am sorry....but I still don't like it!), but I think you get the idea.

Even worse are the ones that look like they tried to string together a bunch of letters to make it look cooler, or maybe some strangely selected adjective. Something like "NitroCoil IV!!" with two exclamation points (and the fourth version) just lacks that interesting hook..... unless it is an ACTUAL language that I just don't understand, and then I apologize.

In the end, this site should be more than the sum of its parts, so please make cool names for those parts as they MIGHT become legendary one day! Take some of the players, for example. I love reading about the "Did you know?" factoids up at the top corner of the page.... Fro'de and his ilk. It lends a flavor to this site and some really great legendary stories that people can read about. I dread the day that I read about Lineman 17 being the best intercepter ever....it would make my stomach turn!

My Point: Names should not be throw-aways! Put some thought into them. Team and player names should have some serious thought put into them to make them cool, funny, or just "Orcish" or "Dwarven". It lends weight and richness to your team and this league/website.

Keep your head up and your cleats on the pitch,

P.S. Creativity wise, I come from a very formulaic view of things, it is true. I could get more creative, I suppose, but then maybe someone else won't "get" my creativity and then bash my team name on some stupid blog.
