How do I do this elfball thing?
So an übernoob (probably the worst) elf coach on the site is seeking assistance :-)

I simply cannot play this agility-like playstyle thingie :D Tried all the elven teams, I found that with some luck I can make a few TDs with high elf teams.

Here's one of my recent match for instance: https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=3593605

Nothing too special, I was a bit massacred but I'm not sure what should have I done better.

After watching the replay a few times I can see that:
1) My positioning sucks :-)
2) I am incapable of utilizting guard
3) I cannot keep my positionals safe
4) I risk too much: try to blitz the ball carrier each turn

So any further comments about how could I do things differently are highly appreciated. Also, if someone could give me a few names whose are the most badass elfballers on the site (so I could steal some tactics by watching their matches) would be a great help.

Thxbai.

Pro Elves as opposed to High Elves, but Relezite is a very good Elf coach. Azure is a great Elf coach as well.

Certainly something to consider.

step 1: activate team on GF.

step 2: click no on all teams what are not flings or elfs

step 3: play games

Haha, good idea, pythrr :D

Scoring with elves is easy. Most people who struggle with elves do so because they score 2 or 3 turns into their receiving drive, then suffer a 2-1 grind. Pacing, stalling, pressuring are very important to any BB game, but easier to forget with agiles. Ball-popping can be a huge deal for some games, but mass blodge sidestep is more often how elves win.

You are just going to have to learn from experience. =)

There isn't a secret formula that will work all the time.. other than Blood, Sweat and Tears.

The toughest for me is to learn how to stall properly.
Because, as said above, an early score will grind you 1-2. (I stopped playing mine a while back because of this)
However, the most fun with elves is when you manage to steal the ball and score a defensive TD.
The most boring is waiting for opponents mistake in column defence, which doesn't always happen

As a training: stall with every race, always 2:1 grind - no excuses!

And if you should fail, well than you always have a good excuse for bad coaching!

You cant lose see...

Brilliant tactics.

As for whom to spec, I would suggest maybe kingvan or Wreckage, who have both mastered the art of achieving a high success rate with relatively simple tactics. There may be more sophisticated and ingenious Elf coaches on the site, who are more successful in the Majors scene, too, but I think you will benefit less from speccing them.

Thx for all the suggestions, guys! I'll definitely check those coaches you suggested.

"As a training: stall with every race, always 2:1 grind - no excuses!"

Sorry, that's just idiotic. Yes, you'll win most games probably but have fun no. I play DE and score when I can, screw stalling, yes I lose 2-1 sometimes but also win sometimes. In the meanwhile, I work on how to stop grinds most efficiently - and have fun while doing it.

Here's my elfy 1-2-3:

1. Dodge away - your turns should end with little-to-no contact with opposing players unless you have just used them to steal the ball. Sometimes even leaving players prone is better than dodging a 4+ or 5+ and risking the armour/injury roll.

2. Block the way - master the art of shielding off the opposing team. Most elf teams are going to be faster than their opponents, so force them to stretch to get within scoring distance, thus creating gaps.

3. Bide your time - don't go straight for the ball, wait for the right moment. The best coaches have an instinct for this. Sometimes it's best to not even try (!) as I have been beaten in the past by coaches simply lying down after 4 turns until half time, then scoring quickly and stealing the ball in the final drive.

CRP helps in that fouling sucks, so the penalty for leaving players prone or failing dodges is not what it used to be.

I feel fairly proud of my last two games of Elf Ball (again, Pro Elves, not High)

https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=3593731

That's the last, but check out the one previous to that. Something I've been trying to practice more and more is the Elf Stall. Difficult to do. Purplegoo schooled the living hell out of me once in a tourney... showed me in a huge way how I needed to up my game.

Roante, I replayed your match yesterday. You were playing almost entirely on your opponents terms. Dont go into tz without a) a plan and b) backup - you'll get hurt (and you did).

Chainsaw's advice are really good, as is the wise words of the_sage: "mass blodge sidestep is more often how elves win."

My last game, true running game elf ball :D

2-1 grind pffft
Posted by Relezite on 2014-08-22 04:28:11
Ignore anything related to the grind. It's boring and it's playing on your opponent's terms.

Minimize TZ contact before you pass the turn, it's a lot easier to do this on defense then it is while stalling. Separate your men from theirs but stick as close as you can to stifle their forward motion. Many coaches will get impatient and try to tie up your men, leaving key defensive openings.

Punish your opponents that play too many men forward on offense, often they will not be able to pic up the ball and get it out of the backfield before your pressure jumps their line and hits the carrier.

"Sorry, that's just idiotic."

Ok, caught me.......

No need for an excuse mate, truth is truth!

Still good hints to be found here.

Albinv,

He's asking on elfball tactics, not dwarves. Hence my comment.
