10tacle Experiment reaches 101 games
The team started out, as the name would suggest, as an test for an idea. The new rules allowed for unlimited mutation access, which would be used to field as many *gasp* tentacles on players with ST4 or more. At first a few lucky games allowed the warriors to score and grow some extensions, which in turn made the team win even more. Right from the start the theme of the team has been to pick tentacles as the first normal skill on all warriors.

The logic behind this was that nurgle warriors have the best set of skills to withstand getting hit, so they just need something to force the opponent to hit my most tanky players while leaving the pestigors free. Also their skills don't have that much synergy with killstack, while FA and ST4 are useless while prone. Besides, fast dodgy agile teams are the ones that can exploit Nurgles weaknesses the best so I wanted something to counter that.

So after hundred games it is a good time to review the results of the trial, especially since its a common opinion that a certain skill combo is better than all alternatives. However, of all nurgle teams with a significant amount of games this one has the best win ratio :). Mind you, few teams that rely more on CLAW and BOMB are following pretty close, and Oulun Nurglet has actually played over 200 games with almost equally good results.

So what is actually the point of this rather long blog? Probably just that you should play teams any way you like and is fun for you, no matter if people tell you you are a noob for picking a certain skill or set of skills (as I have been told numerous times). Who know, sometimes you might even stumble on something good. ;)

I would, however, like to point out that you are one of the best coaches, so the positive record of your team is to be taken with a grain of salt. :)

I can say that playing vs your team vs lot harder then playing vs a "standard" nurgel team.
What makes this team so powerfull is that when you get into trouble its a lot harder to make those special plays to get out of them, when you cant really rely on dodges you get stuck in a slug fest :)

Tent was a big part of why you won over my team, hats off, if I ever play a nurgel team ill try something similar :)

rated 6 for coolness :)

Yeah Fela has a point, and you do also have a couple of killer players mixed in too. So its not all defensive skills. But yeah, still ALOT moer interesting playing against them than most nurgle teams.

Congrats Stonetroll!

The skill set is really funnier than Clawpomber, and Coach's skills too!

My zons were the 17th opponent of this team, it was a good match!

GL with the team!

also worth noteing that you often can get more from your killers on a team like this, since they often get "free" blocks where people normaly would just have dodged away

That is one impressive record, grats!

I must say playing a more claw/guard heavy nurgle my problem is ironically the bash teams, I find nurgle come with some pretty good build in elf defence in the beast and the disturbing presence. Getting players removed from the pitch on the other hand spells disaster for the slow team.

I'm in the process of doing exactly the same thing. It'll be nice to compare my idea for defensive Rotters vs. your actual team.
Posted by bghandras on 2011-09-20 20:18:33
How would that apply to Chaos teams?
Posted by Stonetroll on 2011-09-21 10:36:12
@ Royston: Could you please explain your idea about defensive Rotters a bit more? I would be interested to hear your ideas. I think my team is about 60-70% defensive (warriors and beast) and rest offensive (excuse the bad pun) players. Big part of good defence IMHO is also having ability to decrease the number of attacking players to force them into making more risky plays.

@ bghandras: Chaos team could try the same, but without FA DP and regen the warriors aren't quite as good at it. On the other hand chaos warriors are much easier to skill up, and they could take FA as 3rd or 4th skill. And chaos teams can build up their killer players easier since everyone has the potential to become one.

Well my ideas are kinda evolving as I play my league team - Bath City Bladuds (an lrb4 convert).

I am basically going for a spread of tentacles and guard on the warriors, a mix of skills on the rotters (incl. a ball retrival expert - two heads, big hand, sure hands, etc.) with a couple of killer clawpomb pestigors backed up with pestigors geared up to free the ball e.g. wrestle and strip ball.

It is only a theory at the moment, but I am slowly getting there. Perhaps having the luxury of 3 +ag players has also led me into the luxury of a semi-passing back up plan.
