Hundred games of Faction and none the wiser
My team has recently passed into the three digits, coming second and third once while doing so. So far my passion for faction has yet only increased. As befits such an event it is time to look back and ponder.

A lot of people who do things for a long time like to say that things were tougher long time ago. However this time it might actually be true, because looking back my team had to go over 250 TR to qualify for F3 "in the day". Now teams belov 200 qualify and even reach the #1 division (for a short while at least). This is an alarming thing, because it tells that fewer people play in F. And for such a league the less people play the more probability there is for problems. But on a more positive note I have seen many good and fun coaches pick up faction.

There is also some discussion of F turning into a basher league where you have to play orcs or chaos just to survive. Common theory behind this is that evil nasty bashers can cause more permanent damage to other teams and wear them down in the long run. I would like to disagree on this with several grounds.

Firstly it is up to the players to choose which team to play, so one reason for the relative increase of bashers is that people want to try them out. Playing an orc team, succesfully, for several months and then getting told you are no fun because of the race choice is just plain rude.

Secondly, even if the accusations for a basher division were true, basher div is way better than elfball div.

Thirdly, the system is self balancing in a way. The teams with the worst TR to fun ratio will find themselves facing more stars and attrition tactics. Players are there to win after all, and know how to pick their targets for money spending.

Fourthly, the whole idea of dividing teams into bashy or agile is oversimplification. Even agility teams can give as good as they get, because the most damaging skill, DP, is available on normal rolls. And any team choosing to kill first and score a distant second will find itself on the bottom of the list very quickly. Also especially elf teams can train new rookies much easier to attain the blodge combo very fast because of high speed and AG. The trick is not to get attached to players or certain styles but do what the situation requires.
