Late Night Thoughts.
One thing I have noticed since playing a Halfling team, is that Fling coaches stick together. I've buddy listed a couple of them, so I can watch their games, and I've noticed they have been specing mine. Its kind of cool to be in a non official group. By the way, Im totally sold on Halflings. I am having more fun with them than any other team I have played. The losses are expected. The wins are exhilarating. Its hard to explain. When you win, its a thrill, because they are the worst team in BB. The Fling team is not for everyone. I must admit, it takes a certain type of masochist to want to put themselves through the ringer like a Fanatic Fling coach does. I think I know why I enjoy them so much.
The way I see it, Im definitely not a top coach on Fumbbl. I do feel I can beat 85-90% of the coaches on here any given night. Some of the time by luck, and other by playing ability. There a lot that goes into winning. Team build are HUGE. Having the right amount of skilled players for all scenarios is a big part to winning. I have less skill in that department. I usually build to have similar players for all around the pitch. Its an alright strategy vs average coaches. My initial reasoning for this was because i lose so many players. Have several back ups, to fill the roll. But, when I get matched up vs the top 15%, thats where I can not compete with that strategy. Im a bush leaguer. On the field I feel I can mix it up with anyone. I feel my skill is comparable to anyone. Im not trying to be an egomaniac, I think Im being realistic. Maybe, a bit delusional. Regardless I think I usually lose because of my opponents team building is better than mine. Thats all about coaching skill. Its where I lack. Im a good player, not a terrific coach. I came to this conclusion, when I noticed that I win 90% of my games TV150 and lower. Teams that are not developed completely are easier for me to play and win against. I recently noticed this. When I get to 176 TV, I get pummelled. I also do very well in TT tournaments, which in part, is how I came to this realization.
Moving forward. So, what do I do when I get pummelled? I try to figure out my flaws, then dissect them and improve on them. 1st step is admitting you have a problem. I cant win TV150 and over. There I have admitted it. Now Im in the dissecting stage. Now, being a competitive person I first said to myself, "how can I stay in the TV 150 area without Min/maxing, so I can keep winning? Min/maxing is cheese-ball. What to do? Why not use a Stunty team? Stunty teams don't usually progress above 150TV. Good idea!"
So thats what i did. Its been a blast ever since. Now how can that help you fix your lack of progressive team building keggie? Isn't that the real problem? Yes your right. Im not sure how I can fix that right now. What i will try to do is to develop my Flings as if they were TV 176. I enjoy using Flings a lot right now, so I will continue playing them. At least until I get my Power Cycle. Thats where you are able Win a game vs all Races. 1/2 way there. Im also starting to develop my team for situational play instead of all around even-steven. Certain Flings for moving the ball. Certain for cage breaking (LOL.) Certain ones for fouling. You know, Etc.
I hope it works out, and I can benefit from it. Maybe Im just a fool. It doesn't really matter in my opinion. If I am a fool, then other coaches will benefit from my stupidity. Its a Win, Win scenario for everyone!

I'm in the 50+ Halfling ranked club and I have to say, I find them frustrating. There are just some games you can't do anything.
And when you have those games where you can't do anything, but your oppo decides to stall to remove what few players you have left..........it just enthuses me to start locking accounts.
Yes, I have decided it's best for FUMBBL, if I don't play flings anymore.

I'm with mouseman.
I recently disbanded my halflings, because I just could not take it anymore. I think in general that many coaches that also played flings a lot in LRB4 days find it hard to adjust to their losing ways.
Let's not forget that a TS based matchmaking system was really kind on the lower tier races, and that advantage is now totally gone.

Its natural to feel kinship with other coaches doing the same as you, I think thats why if you play teams like Flings you will find you add similar coaches to your buddy list and spec them too.
It is hard though, I made a Hobgoblin team out of a Chaos Dwarf team and I LOVE playing them because you savour even a draw with such a hopelessly dumb build. However they also drove me off ranked for a while, as the losses got pretty extreme (especially now I've bloated them to 1690tv)!
If you are going to play such hard to win teams you have to prepare yourself for the pain. In fairness it helped me take the losses of my other teams much better, and there is NOTHING like someone all but rage quitting because you are beating him 1-0 with a bunch of Hobgoblins!
May we all keep enjoying our Tier 3 teams!

I get the same satisfaction from playing Ogerz.
I never expect to win (or draw), but when I do, it's Miller time, and if I happen to kill or maim a few opponents along the way, all the better!

I guess the camaraderie is a bonus of the human league too although it is much more organised. And some of my human games recently has also been some of my most exhilarating games ever. Maybe humans are the flings of the black box. ;P

I gave mine up as well.
There's very little ground finding a game. You're almost always at low TV, and that breaks down into 2 categories:
Category A: The guys with the dwarf team with 3 skills, all MB.
Category B: The guys with Elves, Humans, Orcs with 1 tackle or fewer who are still too scared to play a ST2 stunty team because of a pair of trees and blanket AG3 dodge.
I ended up playing a lot of noobs and feeling like a picker.

@maysrill- I kind of feel that way at times. Its funny that a ton of experienced coaches avoid Flings. In the hands of a good coach, and with a lot of luck, Flings are dangerous. I've been challenging a bunch of teams in the 160+ range. I don't have trouble finding games. One day I will stat using my Flings in Box. I wish they would take in consideration that the Flings need inducements as part of their team. Box isn't very good for this right now.
