Mutual Respect?
Don't take my Grats with a Thnx, if you aren't going to give me a return Grats when I score. Im anal like that. Just leave my grats alone. Don't take it, if you aren't going to return it. If you say thanks after I grats you, that is a form of a contract. When I get nothing after my tying TD, that is just plain rude. You are RUDE! Just say grats, like I did. Simple 5 letters. I didn't mean it, no more than you would mean it, but that isn't the point. The point is politeness between two coaches sharing a mutual game. We are sharing a Blood Bowl game. It takes a combined effort. In the same way as if I was to buy you a beer, I expect one back the next time you go up and buy one for yourself. Don't show up with one beer, after I bought you one. This is not a charity, this is a partnership, and I don't like not getting a chance at a reach around. Just say it. I don't care if you mean it. Just say it. Now is it more of less work? Because of you don't have courtesy of returning my politeness, now you have to listen to me spiel out a complaint, when all you had to do is type in 5 fuggin letters, G-R-A-T-S. Its simple politeness. 5 letters of politeness. 5 fuggin letters of politeness. G-R-A-T-S! Now I get to come across as the bad guy, when all I want is mutual respect during a game. If I show you respect, return it, or Ill take it. If all you want are CPU drones playing each other, I can provide my end of the bargain.

JUST SAY: GRATS!

Thnx.... so damn easy typing letters on a key board. I even two finger the keyboard and still manage to be able to get it done.

rated 6, now you gotta rate my blog 6 in return

I like the exchange:

Coach 1: *Scores TD*
Coach 2: Eat shit, lucker.

Doesn't even matter which coach I am :D

Nice.
Posted by Beanchilla on 2016-01-27 05:21:41
If I could rate this thing a 10 I would.
I really don't get why it's so hard to be nice to another human being while you play a game together. Gratz is the easiest, takes no effort and it helps us remember that we're all supposedly DECENT HUMAN BEINGS HERE.

I also think saying "My luck is terrible!" isn't so bad but complaining that the other coach is "just getting lucky." Is also a shitty thing to do.

WOOP WOOP!

i usually type

PFFT, I hope you die in a fire... sorry, meant to type grats.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2016-01-27 08:26:11
I prefer a 'WD'. 'Gratz' seems so cliche or......internet geeky. You know geeks trying to sound cool........the worst kind of geek. If we're at the stage where I'm not putting up much of a defence, and my opponent's running them in. I may stop with the 'WD'. A mixture of; it may sound sarcastic, pointless and generally un-heartfelt.

There is a very good point in this post. Internet etics. It's easy to be rude to others, when you don't really know them, and you just sit alone. Sometimes the thoughts come out through the fingers. They shouldn't!

I'm no saint in this. When I forget to say grats, it is usually because I'm mad at myself for making some ordinary mistake, or mad at the dicebot. The game is about feelings, and the big feelings come into play when TD is comming, or a great pixel is injured. When people are in their feelings, they can forget to be polite and gratulate the opponent.

I am myself working to improve on this part of my game, but don't be too hard on your opponent keggiemckill. Maybe politely remind them of it. :)

Easy
Posted by PaddyMick on 2016-01-27 13:22:23
keggie, if you add a ! as in grats! it shows you mean it, even if you don't. I find just plain 'grats' without the !, kind of insulting, when i'm liberally chucking around ! and 'well played'. I never ever say 'well done', sounds too patronising. !
Posted by mdd31 on 2016-01-27 17:26:05
We played and you defeated me but I found you very helpful. Certainly more polite than most of the savages I normally face on this site.
Posted by Beanchilla on 2016-01-27 17:27:13
I find it a bit funny that "!" would make a difference or saying well done/well played would be patronizing.

So long as people are attempting to be nice, even if it might have the appearance of being a bit sarcastic, it's all good. Better than just being a jerk or complaining throughout the game.

Posted by PainState on 2016-01-27 20:35:06
Sometimes it goes down like this.

Grats, I quess? you freaking lucker.
Posted by fidius on 2016-01-27 20:44:47
The best one I've seen recently is "undeserved".

I believe it can be abbreviated "ud" if you feel the social burden to say something but don't want to waste the energy typing it all out.
Posted by akaRenton on 2016-01-27 20:49:26
I usually go with somethings like "filthy dirty elven scum....err, I mean grats". Seems to set a silly banter tone nicely I find :D
Posted by DeZigma on 2016-01-27 21:15:56
Hmmm, grats ... i prefer --> bravo!
Posted by Redjiik on 2016-01-27 21:32:22
I guess I'm the odd man out, if I were to play a friend in real life I wouldn't saying anything near gratz, well played or anything. I know we all have our own things outside of fumbll but after working with the public all day I'm tired of being fake and want to smoke a lil play some blood bowl. I say ty when some one gratz me cause well I'm trained to, but I don't say it in return because you just got a touchdown, be happy for yourself. I do try to talk though if they are conversing. I don't hate you, I don't even want to seriously injure your menz just slightly so I can get some spp. I do say good game though no matter what. Hopefully that counts for something.
Posted by koadah on 2016-01-27 22:02:19
"I do say good game though no matter what. Hopefully that counts for something."

Even when it was quite obviously not a good game?
Posted by Dalfort on 2016-01-27 23:38:10
the gg thing gets me more than no gratz tbh. some games are awful and I have these in my favour too. I have in the past thanked people for sharing their time with me rather than refer to an obviously slanted game being good.
Posted by ryanfitz on 2016-01-28 00:02:04
I've seen you play, can i just say "you lucky bugger" when you do score :)
Posted by keggiemckill on 2016-01-28 20:11:46
This may have back fired. Thus far my next opponent refused to say anything. My BB world is falling apart. :(..... Nah, I'm cool with whatever. Let's just enjoy mutual fun games. I don't understand why people just want to act like and play against Robots. John Conner would be very disappointed.
Posted by Wreckage on 2016-01-29 00:01:29
keggie... These words don't mean anything. Especially when they are used in this way. As some sort of etiquette. Publicly announcing that you want others to follow some nonsense convention can't possibly improve anything on a human level.
Posted by keggiemckill on 2016-01-29 01:38:25
Wreckage, We have both been on here since 2004. Its always been a thing. 90% of the people say Grats, or something to that manner after a TD. 90% of the people say Hello at the start of the game. 45% of them say Good Luck. 45% of people say have fun. 90% of the people say Thanks for the game, or something to that relation at the end. Who are you to go against the 90%? Im just trying to bring awareness to the long term etiquette of this site to newer members. Its been a thing for that long, believe me I was there. You can vouch in the same way Glimmervoid.
Posted by Awix on 2016-05-23 23:26:17
When someone scores past me and I congratulate them, I hope I actually mean it - it's just a game, after all, and you should try to appreciate good play, even if it's somebody else's good play.
I think when playing a stranger over the internet the minimum standard of courtesy is raised a little bit. But then I would say that, I'm English.
