[Tactics] Bringing Change to Ranked

Change you can Believe In

Over the past few weeks, I decided to park Fun with Goats and focus on building a new chaos team. The main reason I did it, was that I wanted to try something new. I also surveyed the Ranked landscape and noticed that most chaos teams look a lot alike at the higher TVs.

First... some ground rules.

-I wanted a team based on solid defense.
-No PILING ON. It sacrifices positioning and draws me into using it. Then when it doesn't work, it pisses me off.
-Most restrictively, no stacking multiple damage skills per player. This means that while I can have claws and mighty blows, I can't have a single player with both.

So given those restrictions, I then turned to the strength of the chaos roster (aside from clawpomb). Here it is:

-Chaos doesn't require any stats or doubles to excel. What this means is that at a given TV, I can pack in more skills than an opposing team.

Thus my Change Bringers were born.

Now as I reflect on them just shy of their 50th game, here are some observations:

-This team plays some solid D. They give up on average .77 TDs a game. Given that I usually start games on defense, this means lots of opponents either score quick (giving me a shot at some first half offense) or not at all.

-I am better against bashers than elves. Despite the tails and tents, elves can still escape. Against Dorfs and Orcs, my boys are 8/0/3. That is in the absence of clawpomb or clawMB.

-Most importantly, I am having a blast. This team is fun to use (although I can imagine some moments of frustration for my opponents!). Not loading up on a bunch of damage skills means I am not totally screwed over in games where I can't flatten the opposition (a la Goatball).

All in all, this has been a fun experiment for me. I look forward to seeing where this team takes me.

Happy Hunting,
__Synn

I must say, I had a hard time with synns team. The tentacles, and tails prevented me from getting the ball, that I loosened up on Defence. Its much harder of a team to play than a CPOMBer team. Also his focus wasnt on nailing me to the reserves but rather keeping me in tackle zones. Hard team to beat.

They are very tough to play, I can attest to that.

I like the build a lot.

I've tried this with necro - wasn't good enough to really pull it off - but it's fun times. Be the change!

Why not two heads on Fellhand?
Posted by Gromrilram on 2013-07-01 01:14:22
i think your strong emphasize on guard is what hurts you vs elves.

Koadah,

I wanted him to be useful on defense otherwise he sits on the bench during the most important part of the game (first half on D). Guard is better for that than two heads (which is probably in his future).

Played against them with the Monsters and it was a very intense match! My team had some advantages (mass Block and a lot of Fend), but I was out-strengthed AND out-guarded. An interesting experience, especially when two teams that are better on defense than offense meet.

Great approach, great team!

PS. My first real chaos team is developing very interestingly, too: https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=739168
Obviously I did not deny stat increases and doubles (4 out for 5 skill rolls so far), and I don't have a concrete concept for them, but I'll (hopefully) mold them into something I can enjoy. They have the basics (even without stat increases) to very well match my preferred style of play.

For more chaos diversity!

Can't argue with (32/10/6). ;)

It's not as if you are short of guard though.

Personally, I'd probably rather play against a CPOMBer team than this one. ;)

Ewwwww, I'll take the WMDS on over these guys any day :P

great! the second dimension of bash behind relying on killers. hit hard but also hold the ground fiercely. tourney em up!

Personally, I don't think there's any problem with stacking claw with mb. It's more of an equaliser than a kill stack. It's your fault if you play with av9 teams.

There certainly is a lot of interesting chaos builds out there though, which don't get utilised.

0/1/1 vs Norse :D

Nice enough team, although a bit funny how guard spam is almost praised these days. :)

We had a pretty fun game.

Obviously Chaos without a killstack player isn't going to be as good as one with one. Doesn't mean you have to spam it though.

One thing that would help you immensely versus elves would be a wrestle/tackle beastman. I didn't find your prehensile tail to be as effective. 3+ dodge isn't that scary with reroll. Obviously tentacles were huge in our game, and I think the combination of that and 4str blitzer with wrackle would solve a lot of problems. I'd keep the odd prehensile tail guy, and add a diving tackle one. Those two sandwiching a guard can lock down a 3-man LOS for an entire offensive drive.

yay for this team

works in R, where u can avoid clawpomb spam

would it work in B?

(I know, that's not the point).

I really like the logo, what's that from?

Have you considered adding some disturbing presence as defense against passing?
Posted by Dan-Da-Man on 2013-07-01 09:39:00
Try this in black box.

Have you been picky vs c-pomb? Great job!
Posted by Wizfall on 2013-07-01 16:49:42
I have a team that is in part like yours and i agree that it is very pleasant to play.
I think you struggle more against elves because you choose guard over block for lot of your beastmen.
