[B][F] ers
The common complaint by outsiders to F was that it rewarded blatant picking. People would exclude mean teams or even remotely bashy teams and advance through rounds that way. Christer implemented a change after kicking a dozen or so coaches found to be cheating. It was not competitive (and still isn't) despite that being the basic premise of it.

Now we have B. This is a chance to have a truly competitive league in which cherrypicking is perceived as impossible. And yet, forum post after forum post is dedicated to the premise that there should be a mechanism for excluding the same types of teams that were shunned in F via blacklist. Concessions are common in B.

I think as a community, we should just accept that a truly competitive league is completely impossible.

Maybe then people can return to R with a new outlook to the game. One in which if you make a khemri team and play against elves... your elves are expected to play against khemri. One in which people realize that losing players can actually make you more competitive in the next game.

One in which enjoyment matters more than anything else.

There IS some kind of mechanism. And an appropriate one.

It is unpopular in the fummbl community to play Dorf n Khem- and there are lots of people not playing teams because those teams deem them "picker-teams" (or however you want to call it).

My conviction is that you should play the teams you like- be it Khem or Dorf or Orcs or whatever- after all you want to have fun. You should however keep in mind, that you yourself, too probably don't want to only play against bashers.

I for one like to play Khem but haven't made a Khem team yet. I'd consider it bad sportsmanship if my Orcs (brutal enough but i love 'em) would be flanked by Khem alone rather than Human/Chaos/Delf. I don't claim it to be a highly daring combo- but at least it's not one sided bashing-only.
Maybe I will have a Khem team at a certain point because I like to play them. If so I'd probably add a "weak" (or at least an agile) team, too.

I can't force people though and it is not an "Iron Rule". Would make a stupid rule anyway- nobody should (or could) be forced to play a team he doesn't like.

Nonetheless I appreciate such measures and the coaches who try to balance their teams in accordance with their own skill and preferences. A good coach playing Dorf/Orc/Khem/Ogre will hear lots of complaints- and within certain limits I guess that's not a bad thing.

"I think as a community, we should just accept that a truly competitive league is completely impossible. "

There is a truly competitive division in FUMBBL, it's called [L].

Just see how well teams that focus solely on cas do in those leagues. They'll get beat by the agile teams and get fouled and bashed back by the bashers, and in [L] you do get a chance to pay someone back for wrecking your team a few seasons ago.

With the exception that you missed [L] as spubb said (many do - I'll let you off!), this blog is spot on.

It's your free time. You're here to have fun, no wave your e-penis around [B] because you're a manly real man, when you're actually enjoying life less. Play wherever the hell you like, and don't give anyone else stick for their choice.

Bravo.

Well, my view on Faction is different, than yours. The change Christer made to Faction were great. It became the most fun division on FUMBBL. Now, when I have a just too slim time frame, I'm playing merely only faction matches.
It's just a matter of personal preference. And the preference even might change one day, as it has changed several times before.
There's no need to play blackboxers off against factioners and vice versa.

cheers

I read this line and realised that your whole blog relies on hoping morons wont be morons and people will stop ego boosting by picking on new players. Ironic considering you managed the tricky bit and accepted that a truly competitive league isnt possible in a totally desirable format.

PS, I am a real man, unlike Purplegoo who is a fiction of the interwebs.
