If you enjoyed Starship Troopers, I recommend pretty much everything by Heinlein. "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" is my favorite. I recently read a book about competitive Scrabble called "Word Freak" that led to some interesting comparisons to our nerdy little game.

Well I would recomend the following books/series:
Years of Rice & Salt - Kim Stanley Robinson (alternative history of Earth from 1300 onwards)
Red Mars, Green mars, Blue Mars - Kim Stanley Robinson (best books ever about terraforming
Malazan Book of The Fallen Series - Steven Erikson (Fantasy - Probably the best I have ever seen, almost like poetry, his style is not repetative like many fanasy writers)
To Ride Hells Chasm - Jenny Wurts (Possibly the most unique fantasy novel I have read in ages)
What If? - Non-Fiction various writers (Two books about alterantive histories based around critical battles, events and discoveries, very thought provoking stuff)
The Farseeer Trilogy - Robin Hobb (Fanatsy trilogy set in a fictitious world circa 900 AD Europe)
Many more just cant remember them all right now :D

The year is almost coming to a close?

Well I don't know what the date is where you live, but here it's late October. Christmas is in about 7-8 weeks.
Thanks for the advice, I know the library has the Kim Stanley Robinson stuff. I also have to get around to re-reading the whole (original) Dune series. I'm currently reading The Dune Encyclopaedia, and it reminds me how much these hack-job 'Legends Of Dune' and Dune 'prequel' novels are lacking compared to the original.
And Heinlen is definately on my list. I read a few of them when I was a kid, but that's no excuse not to read them again. Hmmm, must check out some Harry Harrison too....
