This blog is mainly to assist me in putting things in perspective.
I hate to lose as much as anyone. I don't think anyone LIKES to lose. I don't think anyone actually enjoys it. But the sad fact of life is, people DO lose. It doesn't matter if it's competetion for a job, baseball, cards, chess and yes even Blood Bowl. If there's a competetion, there will be a winner and a loser. Or at best, a draw. But it's how you take losing that defines character, just as much as winning. There are bad losers and bad winners.
But I'm mainly talking about the bad losers and concessions. Bad winners is saved for another day.
If you challenge another coach to a game and they accept your challenge, at least have the courage to see the game through. Offering up a game and then conceding before the end of the first half shows weakness of character. Especially, when you still had the means to pull off a win despite the odds, or at the very least tie the game up. I guess some people want an overwhelming advantage when they play or are not having a good time when they don't have it.
There are days when the dice gods love you and you're team and tactics are infallible and then there are days when you wonder why you bothered to play at all. I have experienced both kinds of days. Sure it sucks when you lose. But think about what you're doing when you concede without a good reason. First off, there's the gate. The guy you're conceding to gets ALL of your money. Second, the guy you're conceding to gets YOUR MVP. If homegrown star players are involved, you, the conceder may actually lose that player. Now let's take a look at the legal side. There are site rules that govern concessions, if your concession doesn't meet the criteria, you could be dealing with the admins.
Even people who don't concede and still have their teams destroyed, earn more respect. Because, they didn't give up and quit. I've been down to one or two players before and still didn't concede. General George S. Patton once remarked; "the thought of losing is hateful." The thought of conceding should be more so, because you're LETTING the other guy win without making him fight for it....
Lastly, NO ONE LIKES A QUITTER.
