Tiny FFB and Java window on new win8.1 PC
Today I tried to play a game on a new PC. The PC runs on Windows 8.1 and I use Firefox. Problem: The FFB client window (and the Java window before/while opening it) are much smaller than usually. The window is only a few cm wide, too small to see what's going on on the pitch. I have no idea how to fix the problem and see the client screen (or window) in its usual size. Does anybody of you know what might be the reason? Is it a win 8.1. problem? Is it win8 + Firefox? Can this be hardware-related? I tried to open the window on a 20'' screen and on a small ultrabook screen but the result is the same. I also changed (decreased) the resolution of the 20'' screen, but the FFB screen remained tiny. Any ideas?
I am aware that this may be the wrong place for the question. But this blog can be deleted quickly and I avoid to spam the forum (with a question other may have had already, I just didn't find anything relevant quickly).
Thanks for your help.

it is just the resolution, you just need to reduce your resolution and it will look bigger.

I doubt it is a problem with either Windows 8.1 or Firefox, as I use both and don't have any trouble. As Garion said, it could be the resolution.

I changed the resolution of the 20'' screen, but the screen size remained the same. Maybe the problem is caused by working with 2 screens, a small ultrabook screen plus an external 20'' screen. The ultrabook has a very high resolution. But no matter if I decrease the ultrabook's or the external screen's reso the FFB cliebt window remains the same size - tiny. The fumbbl site of course varies, but the size of the applet window remains just the same.

What resolution did you minimise it to? What's the minimum it will go down to? Some top notch screens simply won't go down to the resolution needed, however a 20" should be ok.

1280 x 800 as an example should be ok.

I think it has to do with the 2 screen configuration (but still don't know how to solve the problem). The ultrabook screen has 3200 x 1800 on a pretty small display. The external screen has a 1680 x 1050 resolution. I use the external screen as a screen extension. Everything that is moved from the ultrabook screen to the external screen adjusts in size - except the FFB window. When I move it from right (untrabook) to left (external) at first the size is increased, but once the window is almost fully visible on the external screen the size shrinks again. This behaviour happens no matter which resolution i choose.

disconnect the second screen.

what Garion said, but inverted: has the notebook a setting to only use the external screen? some kind of presentation / beamer mode maybe?
Or maybe you can change which monitor is regarded as the primary monitor?

I appreciate your efforts to help me, thanks a lot. Most of what was suggested i tried already. Disconnecting the 2nd screen is what I'd like to avoid because the ultrabook screen is so small. No beamer/presentation mode or the like afaik. I tried with notebook screen turned off, and tried both screens as primary monitor. All this didn't solve the problem unfortunately. Maybe i have to settle with the ultrabook screen as the one and only monitor, but that will make the game almost unplayable given that I can neither fly nor look like an eagle.

Try setting the displays in duplicate mode (Win+P -> Duplicate). That should set the same resolution on both displays (using the external display's resolution) and avoid scaling when moving apps between the two.

I've still not been able to fix the problem. I try to describe it in more detail. The first thing that pops up after you start a game is the small window with the red Java coffee cup logo. And here it starts. This window is much smaller than usual, and it stays very small independent from the resolution. The same is true for the following screens up to the point when you see the pitch. This doesn't even change if I completely turn off the small ultrabook screen and work with the external 20'' screen only. The only chance to increase the java window at all is to massively decrease the resolution of the external screen to 800*600 or even less. However, after doing that the pitch is still much smaller than on my old 17'' notebook, it's heavily distorted, the edge not fully visible, and other signs on the screen, fx the pointer, ridiculously big.
I surfed the web to find a solution but failed. I've tried everything that was suggested here but it didn't help. Just changing the overall screen resolution is for sure not the answer in this case :(
