This is going to be a relatively short blog I’m afraid, but I do try and post 1 every month if only to motivate me to keep up the painting/converting to have something to blog about.
I’ve made good progress, but much of it was just gluing the saurus and skinks together then filling in any gaps. Pics of those models would look very similar to those from the last blog when they were held together with blu tac.
However I have decided on which shoulder pads the saurus will use. I went for the Dwarf ones as I think they look the most like football armour, something I like about Lizardmen in WHFB is their mix of primitive and super advanced left over old ones technology. I picked a shoulder pad that had a clear bit on it to allow me to easily paint the player numbers as well as the same design on the right pad. I’m also going to paint the chest plate red as if it is armour. I’ve filled any gaps with greenstuff and glued them all together and will be painting them in April. The middle guy from the pic below has the pads I'm using.
I’ve managed to complete all 8 skinks which gives me a great feeling of accomplishment having 8 of the 17 players done. In the end I’ve gone for a super generic colour scheme of blue skin, dark blue scales and red armour. It’s pretty much the colours GW uses on their players and fantasy army, but with good reason I think as it looks great on them. I deliberately gave their gold jewellery and armour some extra shading in turquoise glaze to make it more like bronze than bright gold. I may leave this off once it comes to the stars to help them stand out.
The 2nd batch of skinks included my favourite terradon riding models. I wanted to ensure their chests were well painted so didn’t glue them to the bases until they were done which allowed me easy access. Those skinks have more armour than most of the team, but I see those 3 as the stars so that seems appropriate that they get the best gear.
My hope is that I can finish the saurus by mid-April which will give me at least 5 weeks to paint up the Krox, stars and display base. The Krox needs quite a lot of conversion work still whilst the stars just need a little tweaking to their feet and they will be ready to paint.
I have been trying to plan out the display base and want to make it slightly different from previous efforts. Those used a grass sheet from hobby shops with the NAF logo painted onto it and then disks cut from this sheet and glued onto bases. This time I’d like to make the logo out of plasticard as if it was a mosaic on the pitch, the rest of the ground being quite overgrown. I did have some issues with the grass disks warping when they were glue to the bases and hope to avoid that by using flock. It will be harder to add this mosaic to the base so I am considering doing the logo smaller and only the krox and stars will have this showing.
I’m debating whether to have some taller grass and swampy patches as if the pitch was in a rainforest.
