Evidently, there are a few people who are unhappy with having their teams/players renamed by the staff, or should I say "some people that handle complaints"?
First off, it's not exactly fair to blame a single staff member for taking action. The site has team naming policies for which I am ultimately responsible. I made the choice to implement the naming rules in the first place, and if you want to blame someone for teams getting renamed for violating these policies it should be me.
Yes, I am sure your player names really refer to female dogs, extra-marital children, cats, donkeys and tributes to the actor Van Dyke. However, a large portion of members of this community are not quite as literate as you and will most likely interpret these names as their offensive counterparts. Also, you need to take into account that not everyone has English as their first language and may not be aware of the definition you might find in a dictionary.
What we are aiming for here is an environment where people don't have to see foul language. I'm sure all of you are grown up enough to actually have a vocabulary large enough to come up with good team and player names without resorting to foul or otherwise offensive language.
You may not agree with this policy, and you may not agree with what the staff considers offensive but I'd be happy to see that rather than complaining about how your team has "been around forever without anyone complaining" or "where I come from, this word is used on a daily basis without anyone taking offense", you just accept that your team crossed the line for what is allowed here and got on with your gaming.
