debog's shadow
Turn 15, the game is lost for the cherServiteurS. A terrible dicing, smashed off the pitch by some freak team. debog, FUMBBL's all-time greatest player, is holding the ball, surrounded by pitiful humans, the opposing endzone only 6 yards away. Time to show them how it's done with skill and grace instead of luck!
The vampire gets in motion, blitzes a catcher aside, dodges free... but someone's still behind him. A quick look over the shoulder: It's that human blitzer, quite the stat freak himself. Somehow he managed to stay hard on his heels. debog is not bothered. He focuses on the endzone, disciplined, dodges again... - and the man is still there.
debog almost trips, but his experience saves him. He rushes forward, but the blitzer keeps up with him. He's even yelling something now. "Bite me!" Seriously? debog certainly doesn't get taunted by insults! He leaps forward, almost falls over again... but the endzone is only one yard away now. Just another step...
A hand grabs his coat, he stumbles... "DAMN!" debog crashes down into the humans' endzone, stunned. A figure bends over him. "Would you bite me, Sir? Just once, please? It's kind of a badge, you know..."

It really happened: Fin (MA 8) managed to shadow debog (MA 7) on six consecutive steps, until the Dodge and team RR were burned and the vampire failed the last dodge for the score. It was amazing. A great moment of Blood Bowl. And it feels good to get at least a little reward from odd skill choices now and then. :-)

I actually had no desire to kill him. I think I blocked him only once, if at all (maybe it was supposed to be an ogre blitz but he failed his bone head roll...). I know that makes me an odd person...
@Jimmy: Well, there is this badge "Superhuman" - one player with all four stats boosted. Can't get there if I don't take what I'm offered by Nuffle. ;-)
@Paddy: The ogre even did a successful leap-blitz in that match, on T16. He knocked over a thrall and broke his armor, but didn't manage a casualty - otherwise it would have been the "Big but graceful" badge. ;-)

6 steps (squares) equates to 24 "yards" or "paces" as they we referred to in 2nd Ed (they may have used this scale in 1st Ed but I started with 2nd and have not back read much). A "Did you know..." once spoke of a Giant teams pitch being 22 leagues long...

Ah, thanks for the clarification! But I think passing and rushing yards are measured exactly like squares - so the longest possible quick pass are recorded as 3 (passing) yards.
Those are the "yards" I was referring to. I'd be happy to change it though. :-)
