Blood Bowl Woes
My last blog entry was about me finding 2nd edition BB for £25. Being a specialised game I knew it wouldn't sell so finally negotiated my comic book shop down to £15. Bargain, you might say...

However, I am missing a range ruler and BB dice. A bit poo, especially as I was planning to teach my daughter how to play the game.

I did get everything else 2nd edition comes with though, plus 15 lead human minis. I remember buying the same set as a kid, they are from 1987, so are pretty sweet.

It sounds as though you might just confuse her if you are messing around with 2nd ed.

You might be better off making your own board. At least then it will be the right size.

Then you could get a ruler & dice from ebay.

I bet most people only buy 2nd ed so that they can open the box once a year, run their fingers over the astro granite and say to their children "Aaaah, now when I were a lad..."

"...the bleedin' minis kept falling over."

I remember my old minotaur. Looked awesome, but either fell over or the glue failed and it fell in half.

2nd ed didn't have BB dice, are you intending to play second edition? And the range rule is exactly the same as the current one. If you purchase a GW one, it hasn't changed in 25 years. You can also buy these from 3rd party suppliers, or you could make your own. FF-Fields do a nice range ruler.

I was planning to play current rules.

Didn't remember having the bb dice as a kid.

mate, blocking was d6s back then :) thats how old we are!
Posted by keggiemckill on 2013-08-17 16:30:10
Lol, yeah die 6s for blocking. I remember it being 1=skull, 2=Both down, 3,4=Pushes, 5=Dodge/down, 6=KaPow.

The ranger ruler is exactly the same as the one we use now a days. I have a board still, but I was planning on putting it in a frame and hanging it on the wall. It was the start of this obsession. Its like saving your first crack pipe.

Is that Ka-pow! blocking? 2nd ed BB blocking was much more complex than that, and was done on 2 dice, plus/minus Strength and Block modifiers.

Off the top of my head it was something like,

2 or less, attacker injured.
3-4 attacker down
5-? Stand off.
7?-8 Both down, but that maybe the dodge chart and just 8 is down on the block chart, in fact I think that's the case.
9-11 defender down
12 defender injured.

They then later added push backs (looking for a push back rather than an down was easier) and doubling up on one player.

Right. I forgot about that. We used that because we didnt have block dice in 3. I still have the rule book somewhere for 2nd Ed. Ill dig it out and read it one day.

We call star hits Ka-pows, because we called dodge downs, pows. silly canadian thing

Those boys gots range rulers and dice (if you were unlucky enough to not get in on the FUMBBL dice Kickstarter).
Posted by harvestmouse on 2013-08-17 18:55:56
I'm thinking Kerrunch, not Ka-pow! It was a simplified version. Maybe your chart is from that?
Posted by Royston on 2013-08-17 19:29:07
So what's the big difference between the poly board and the new one for playing CRP TT?
Posted by koadah on 2013-08-17 20:04:25
I was a bit confused by all this so I checked it to be sure.

Mouse & Keggie are right. The range ruler is exactly the same size.

The pitches are different sizes though which is why I assumed that the range ruler would be different. The pitches have the same number of squares apart from the 2nd Ed. endzone being two squares deep.

The 3rd Ed. squares are bigger though.

That is good for you though. If you PM me your address I can send you a (slightly worse for wear) range ruler.

You can use Keggie's chart for dice until you get some proper ones.

Otherwise ebay is your friend.

1. Size of squares.
2. Amount of squares.
3. Size of endzone.

I used the old astrogranite pitch to make a custom stadium. As the squares are smaller than the current board the range ruler allows you to throw the ball further.
You might want to use a passing chart http://www.arosbb.dk/default.asp?p=pr or draw lines on the range ruler to make correct.

Or not worry about it and let your daughter play elves :)
Posted by koadah on 2013-08-17 21:38:42
The field excluding endzones is 15x24 on both.
Posted by Royston on 2013-08-17 21:43:25
My daughter rolls 6s 90% of the time so I'm probably going to end up losing badly either way.
Posted by keggiemckill on 2013-08-19 05:50:23
The range ruler is the same dimensions. Now quit using those 29mm pieces of garbage and start with the 40mm. Way better to use.

Iirc the set-up rules for 2ed were different too, No central LOS but a line halfway on the Endzone thirds so each team had to race to the centre 4 squares to try and pick the ball up first... ahh the chaos of it all
