24th game : learning
I had choice between sleep or play. So did Ro. Game ensued. I used my Iconics to try out my new icons, he used skavens (2GR, 2SV, 0RO, 1T). I lost 3-1 and he mostly played better than me, which I was kinda expecting. It's nice because it let me see skavens from another angle.

What did I learn today?
- my icons win (see Iconics' yearbook).
- human throwers have 2 icons on the pitch : a thrower one and a liner one. I lost my 2nd thrower countless times among my liners.
- Guard. Yeah I know that's from my previous games, but Guard is cool. Having a few players with it really helps in close fights.
- Main reason I lost : positioning in general. Having my last player too far to reach the case, the player being 1 square too far to score, placing my players correctly for optimal dodge-tackling and defensive assists. I knew it was one of the main things I had to practice and it came apparent here.
- Some of the main ways he beat me was of course through positioning, but also by making a lot of successful dodges. I could use that.
- Remember my kicker. I went 1/2 on that, which is better than my average so far.
- Block/Dodge players (Blodgers) are very hard to keep down.
- Apparently, on Argue Ref, 1 = you can't do it anymore, 6 = success.
- Skavens are fragile. 3 deaths. One by crowd, 2 by ogre. Plus 2 BH for each team.
- Kick result CAN kill players.
- Crowd prevents use of apo. pushing in crowd = unsavable injuries (but don't count as CAS).
- Learn2foul. Seriously.
- Even if the ref isnt looking, I can still get thrown out.
- Passes, even long, aren't THAT hard. And on that matter, high A is about as good as the Pass skill in many occasions.
- Team advancement. Partly the reason why I lost my last 2 games. One had good skills on just aout every guy, the other had a super gutter runner. I can't say I have anything great on any team.
- Handicaps seem mostly overrated from my last couple of games. Sure things like a RR aren't bad, but having more (or stronger) players would be better almost any day I think. So don't count on it too much as being equalizers.
- stopping gutter runners. Hard. Dangerous moves for their health it is, but when there's 2 in your zone ready to catch a ball behind your line, TD often ensues.
- Get better at counting. For dice. Sometimes I just guess how much I need to pass a roll and I shouldn't have to guess.
- Giving the ball to the S2 guy just because he's faster/agile isn't always a good idea. He's weaker, so easier to knowck down and lose the ball (blitz). A knocked liner can come out of nowhere and blitz the S2 carrier with 2 dice.
- With higher M, throwing the ball far away can sometimes be a good idea (!). Sometimes.
- I like my icons. I do. Quote from Ro : "i lol"

Skill on ogre, with double? (can take +M)

If your big guy rolled a double....

...pick Block, for turnover prevention.

First of all I love to read your blog posts so keep them coming! Secondly for your big guy there is only one option really... take Block!

I must say I just found out your icons and I absolutely love them ! :) I like to read your posts too !

Oh, and block on the big guy. I am not very good, but I learned this, always take block.

I took Block. I didn't remember it was so obvious, thanks for pointing it out.

For a double on a Big Guy... take Pro... Now he has 50% shot at rerolling any failed dice rolls like Bonehead or Bad Block Dice... it will make him more effective in more circumstances and less likely to turnover. Having Block won't save you from Double Skulls... Pro just might. Having Block won't get you off the ground when Bonehead hits... Pro just might.

But Block it OK too. Just get Pro next time. Especially for a Big Guy on a team where you can TTM.
