Played it very intensively (about 4 weeks or so) but at the end of day it's not really properly balanced at all and somehow feels wrong (you'll know what I mean once you played it and understood the underlying mechanics), also the multi-player mode makes as much sense as a Blood Bowl single player mode. I definitely wouldn't buy this game again, even though it could have been a good one if designed properly.

I never played it multiplayer, I'd say it is a single-player game at heart. The pausability and adjustable game speed are too important to the game play.

Like many single player strategy games, once you've figured out all the mechanics you can power-play it optimally, and it will become a boring win.

There are some gamey quirks that you can abuse to make the game boring for yourself. (inviting to court, making vassal, then pressing claims is one, making prince-bishoprics is another. Anything involving saving and loading sucks too, retinues are too good, and holy wars are (still) too easy). So don't! The political game of intermarriage and scheming is tons of fun.

Multiplayer is lot of fun in it, especially since it doesn't promote pure competitiveness, if you add a little bit of roleplaying it really pays off in entertainment. 5/5 would buy again.

Dunno, while the random effects are redundant (there are not nearly enough of them) and mercenaries appear to be broken among other things, there's one major flaw in my opinion: War and diseases should destroy population and infrastructure but they don't. That extremely important of medieval history is completely missing.

Actually, war does destroy infrastructure if waged by vikings. And while disease doesn't lower population directly, it kills/weakens nobles, and reduces income from taxes and trade.

I've played this game for 450 hours.

I don't think I've ever played anything for that long.

If you like this game, try European Universalis III with all add ons, or IV.

I found that better and more easially playable.
