Also: The reference is not always as obvious, it depends on the coach name and/or name(s) of his team(s). I usually don't do it systematically either, but when I can actually afford a new player and I liked the last game good enough.

Naming players after coaches never works. I had several flings called Rabe, hoping for either +AG or blackle, and all they did was keeping faking injuries after a couple of turns. Dal killed the last one, ending a pathetic fling carreer. :D

But the best exemple is probably my Zed. I hired him after the GLT stunty final against San Fran (and by the way HIS Kam got the MVP after the match for screwing his game), thinking that would bring good luck. He had a few decent rolls, but I never had a fling so fragile. I think he spent 90% of his time in the injury box. He even managed to get a SI turn zero of his first XFL match.

Never name players after coaches. They will screw you.

Of course there are others, less remarkable ones - but I don't think anyone was a real disappointment. Probably has something to do whether it's a dwarf or a halfling you name after a coach. :-P

Oh, I've had a few great players named after coaches. I even made a legend of Garion. But even him screwed me and decided to commit suicide in the last prep game before a tourney.

Even your players betrayed you, the_sage. Your best tree was named after me and I lucked - err stuntied my way to the second round of the XFL. ;)
