GW announces LRB5(!) tournament, doesn't bother talking to NAF
GW announces LRB5(!) Warhammer World BB tournament, doesn't bother talking to NAF about it either.
Well, this is bound to go over well with the tabletop community...
http://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/the-bugmans-xxxxxx-league-cup/

You'll find discussions of this on FB, reddit and TFF.
*edit: It appears the LRB5 notice was a mistake, and the NAF are on the case:

£55 entry fee... I can't justify spending silly money on miniatures anyway, then charging entry on top - no thanks.

So sad.. They dont bother with the bb community :(

Oh, honestly. Come on sage, you're better than a sensationalist blog. This isn't TFF. :)

There's a thread in the forum, I think jumping to any conclusions this is more than a bit of a bungle is a pretty large extrapolation.

Calmness. ;)

Woodies can manage 3 wardancers with Jordell at that price. :-)
Posted by Throweck on 2016-01-28 14:25:26
I'm in two minds about this. I live pretty close and I am intrigued but £55?

Regardless of whether we think this is a good idea or not, it's happening. It will affect the landscape of Bloodbowl when the game is officially released. I am looking forward to the speculation because it entertains me and makes me think. So many questions and the answers are more than likely won't be what we want.

I'm with Goo...Calmness ;)

League Points earned for Completions, Touchdowns, Casualties, Interceptions and Players Sent Off for Fouling. Whether you win the games doesn’t actually matter…

. Whether you win the games doesn’t actually matter…

doesn’t actually matter…

also:
Drink! One free pint of Bugman’s XXXXXX or any soft drink for each player. -

that means playerss, not coaches right?

Posted by Uedder on 2016-01-28 15:54:45
HELLYYEAH! 16 Khems means 16 beers!!

And also lots of sentoff + cas points. Afterall winning doesn't actually matter...

GW to the BB community: We still don't give a toss about you, but we'll gladly take your money again!

And the NAF has zero influence it seems.

Time for FUMBBL to start doing its own thing perhaps?

Grandma Wendy's at it again!

From reading the GW blog what I got out of it was that the modified rule set is for THE TOURNAMENT ONLY. Not a fan of GW, but Chill peeps.
Posted by Jeffro on 2016-01-28 18:00:19
I'm really interested to see what kind of a turnout they get. I'm in the states, so I'm not going ;) but I can only assume that eventually a store here will attempt to do the same thing.

I'm paying $40 to go to Orclahoma Bowl and likely going to fly there as well, so spending stupid money for a tournament has some precedence. Though mine is in the case of visiting friends as well, not so much for the glory of winning (except to beat Grither ;)
Posted by the_Sage on 2016-01-28 18:02:08
I'd like to think I limited myself to the facts:
-They announced a tournament (yeey!)
-Said they would use LRB5 (ummm, that can't be right)
-the NAF was wholly blindsided by this (lack of either class or sense)
Posted by spubbbba on 2016-01-28 18:55:18
The NAF GT is £50, though you do get an extra game.
Posted by PeteW on 2016-01-28 19:16:29
£55 isn't too bad if they give you two hot meals (the food at WW is very good) and a pint.

Probably better value than the NAFC which is £45 and you get sandwiches. :/

I'll go to both as I live in Nottingham. :)
Posted by Throweck on 2016-01-28 19:34:14
Pete, fancy that meet up we talked about around three years ago?! :D

@WhatBall +1
@Uedder yes, another trick to sell more miniatures
Posted by bigbullies on 2016-01-28 21:00:14
everyone who goes take cameras as it wouldn't surprise me if they unveil some new minis or some such to get everybody excited about how they will destroy our hobby
Posted by xnoelx on 2016-01-29 03:43:00
Saying the price isn't bad by comparing it to another hugely overpriced event isn't much of an argument...
Posted by Purplegoo on 2016-01-29 08:47:33
The NAFC, at £45 if you sign up this month, is excellent value. The bits are of high quality, and the venue is terrific. To be treated like a human being at a nerd event is always welcome, rather than a curiosity in a working man's club or a pub.

Far more controversial is lauding WW food. I never minded it myself, it was just fuel. But several forum inches were dedicated to the 'slop' every year. If put it on par with the NAFC bags, myself.

Even the reaction to the accusation of sensationalism was a little sensationalist. Class or sense?! Overreaction gets us nowhere.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2016-01-29 09:05:31
*I'd. Stupid phone.
Posted by the_Sage on 2016-01-29 09:19:11
I don't think opinionated equals sensationalist, but you're free to your opinions on it, of course. The way I see it, either they didn't have the sense/knowledge to get in touch with the NAF beforehand (which would have helped them a ton all around), or they deliberately ignored their existence.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2016-01-29 10:59:40
I don’t / didn’t mean to specifically pick on you when there were hundreds of BB nerds panicking and running around like the sky was falling in yesterday – but to find something quite as ‘opinionated’ (let’s settle on that) prominent in the blog section of FUMBBL (when we already had a thread) was exasperating. We’re generally more sensible and less reactionary than the questionable areas of the BB Internet, where the end times were coming, someone think of the children!

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Most BB nerds interested enough to be across the Internet have this. Whilst I read all of this and thought ‘Hm. Probably bungled communication and nothing to worry about, standard GW, nothing we’ve not seen before’, the overarching Internet fallout was an instant dismissal of this as a slight, or as a reason to boycott GW, or some other overreaction. To see that extended here induced a sigh, that’s all.

GW are aware of the NAF. The NAF are aware of GW. You are suggesting the NAF are a vital cog in this machine, but I would contend that’s because you (we all) want them to be. It would be good for us to have an organisation with a top level of BB groupthink involved in whatever comes out of GWHQ, because we love what BB is. However, what would NAF involvement have achieved here, in this specific example? Probably a slightly better wording to the press release such that a few nerds didn’t lose their minds on the Internet, and that’s all. The tournament was never going to be sanctioned or have that much NAF involvement. A day of minor Internet fallout will not concern GW one iota; profits from ticket sales and buzz created for future box sales is all that matters, and the poop hitting the online fan will only help that. So, job done. The WW staff member who wrote the advert is probably not even aware people talk about BB on the Internet, the poor sod just got told what to do!

I hope, nay expect, that the upcoming BB developments will be intelligently dealt with, minor and will not impact the game we play. It is likely GW will achieve some profit by shifting a box to 12 year olds, whilst keeping us all happy by not changing the full game before they move onto the next SG system. The likelihood of this can only increase with NAF involvement, so I hope that happens, but if they are not involved, it won’t be ‘a lack of class’ – it’s their game they can do what the hell they like to make money. It won’t be ‘lacking in sense’ – they know better than the NAF how to pay their mortgages via sales of minis and games. It will be disappointing and will increase the chances of bad things happening for _us_, but that is life. I don’t buy loads of GW gear (but play far, far too much); a 12 year old who buys into some ridiculous BB reimagining might.

Anyway, that’s a crazy long comment. But my last comment. GW will cock up again, next time, all I ask is that we all breath in and count to ten. ;)
