Being done with my PhD (defended yesterday) should mean I will have less stress and work-avoiding-behavior, which probably means fewer middle-of-the-day random games.

My background is more in neuroscience (psychobiology, biomedical science), I did my PhD in the psychology department, and the contents of my work is in cognitive neuroscience; it straddles the middle ground between biology and psychology.

I studied how we make decisions quickly versus accurately, ranging from mathematical psychology (investigating behavior and cognitive models) through systems neuroscience (implicating brain regions and systems in specific behavior) to the more neurochemical (investigating the neurotransmitters involved using drugs and fMRI).

I'm interested to find out if you subscribe to the theory that we create our own realities with expectations of certain outcomes. I'm always intrigued by the "bad luck" of folks that focus on the "unlucky" possibilities and those that decide to look past them and find more favorable outcomes. What say your big brain about that, good Doctor?

Yes Jeffro; expectations are a big factor in both in the perception of the result, as well as in the actual outcomes (the latter through motivation, effort and the perception of opportunity as mediating factors).

I know a doctor who's worked at a university for nearly 10 years and still lives from grant to grant while their crappy HR department leaves him unpaid for months at a time. He loves his work, but it's a tough way to live so you gotta watch that :)

I don't aspire to be (remain) a scientist; I don't enjoy research too much, but do love teaching at the university level, which is what I want to do predominantly.

And yeah; Winkel is Dutch for store. =)
